Aotearoa New Zealand update | August 2021

Lockdown

I think we can all agree that trying to deliver dispute resolution services in a lockdown situation is challenging. We have had the opportunity to learn from last year how to adapt and be agile. We now have the ability to work online in many circumstances and are equipped to work from home.

However, in my humble view, the most important thing we should all be doing in lockdown is looking after ourselves.

The Tertiary Education Union Te Hautu Kahurangi o Aotearoa put out this timely reminder for us.

I think there is some good advice here and all that I would add is to be kind and take care of yourself, your family and friends.

Training and Education

Our outstanding five-day mediation workshops continue to be very popular with our next one in Auckland in November sold out.

If you are aware of people who would like to attend one of our mediation workshops, then I would recommend they get in contact with us and register their interest. We run three to four workshops per year but if there is a need for more, we can meet that need.

We can also provide the same five-day workshop for smaller in-house groups at a single session price. If you are interested or know someone who might be interested, please email me at trevor.slater@resolution.institute

I am very pleased to say that we are in the process of creating more short courses on mediation and negotiation ranging from 40-minute multi-blocks to three-hour workshops.  Topics will include:

  • Introduction to mediation
  • Negotiation – from basic to advanced
  • Early complaint resolution skills
  • Advanced mediation skills
  • Conflict coaching

Restorative Justice

The other great news is that we are now able to offer Restorative Justice (RJ) full-course training to persons who are not currently working in the RJ sector.

Until recently, to undertake our RJ training, you needed to be working in the sector with an approved Provider Group. We now have an agreement with the Ministry of Justice to allow a limited number of persons to undertake the full RJ training at their own cost.

This means you can learn how to deliver RJ facilitations so that if you wish to move into this area, your training will be already substantially completed.

Please contact us if you are interested in the RJ course.
