Lainey Feingold presents on
Structured Negotiation, Disability Rights, Digital Access: Twenty plus years of Dispute Resolution without Lawsuits (sometimes with a mediator's help!)
Lainey Feingold is a United States disability rights lawyer who has negotiated inclusive technology agreements with some of the largest organisations in the U.S., all without lawsuits. Instead of suing, she and her clients and colleagues use a dispute resolution process they have developed known as Structured Negotiation. Structured Negotiation is a collaborative dispute resolution process focussed on problem-solving and relationship-building. Born at the intersection of technology, disability and dispute resolution, it is a process that has application to a wide range of civil disputes. Hear about Structured Negotiation, how mediators can help the process, and join a discussion about whether or not this method could be adapted for NZ, considering legal issues.
Lainey Feingold is a disability rights lawyer focusing on digital access, an international speaker, and the author of "Structured Negotiation, A Winning Alternative to Lawsuits". Lainey's book is packed with win-win stories of accessibility advocacy with some of the largest organisations in the U.S., all without lawsuits. Lainey has represented the blind community across the States for more than two decades, working on accessibility issues including:
In 2017 Lainey was named a Legal Rebel by the ABA Journal and was the recipient of the John W Cooley Lawyer as Problem Solver award. She received a California Lawyer Attorney of the Year award in both 2000 and 2014 for her digital accessibility and Structured Negotiation legal work.
