Re-Constructionist Mediation: theory and practice. A meeting of the Minds for Legal representatives.
This webinar will provide a multidisciplinary insight into the dispute resolution continuum as an agent for social change. It will focus on the philosophy/ theories behind the mediation process and the human causes of conflict.

About the speaker
Dr Katherine Pavlidis Johnson, Barrister and Mediator
PhD (Law) Majoring in Dispute Resolution, LLM, BA (Psychology & Education), MA (School Counselling), BLegS.
Accredited Mediator (NMAS), PNG, WMO, WLA and IMI.
Katherine has been admitted in NSW as a registered Psychologist since 1990; a practicing barrister since 1993; and as an accredited mediator since 1996. Katherine is internationally and nationally accredited as a mediator, serving on various mediation panels including the International Mediation Institute (IMI), Papua New Guinea Supreme Court (PNG), World Law Alliance (WLA), World Mediation Organisation (WMO), the Supreme Court of NSW, the Personal Injury Commission of NSW and is registered with the Attorney General’s Department of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia as a family dispute resolution practitioner (FDRP). She is currently a retired counselling, organisational and community psychologist in private practice from 1984 to 2017, and a continuing registered research psychologist as well as a trainer/assessor of mediators since 2000.
Katherine’s extensive practice in Psychology, Law and Education has led her to find common ground between the fields culminating in a PhD in Law from Macquarie University in 2015. She published her thesis and handbook for practitioners, called “Mediation Quest: Making Sense of Loss,” in 2018. Her thesis develops a new mediation model called the "Re-Constructionist Model" which combines the insights from the field of Loss and grief in Psychology to the practical resolution of disputes in Law.
Katherine is the Founder of PAVE the Way to PEACE, an interest group meeting in NSW Parliament House since 1996; Co-Founder, of the Dispute Resolution and Psychology Interest Group of the Australian Psychological Society (APS); Co-Founder of CADR (Council for Alternate Dispute Resolution) and has been the longest serving President of the Australian Dispute Resolution Association (ADRA) since its inception in 1986.
