Queensland Competition Authority mediator pool recruitment | Queensland Competition Authority

The Queensland Competition Authority (QCA) is empowered under the Queensland Competition Authority Act 1997 (QCA Act) to facilitate dispute resolution, including by way of mediation. The QCA is seeking applicants for a pool of mediators to assist in resolving disputes relating to services declared for access under Part 5 of the QCA Act.

The pool of mediators will be published on the QCA website. The selection of the members of the mediator pool will be based on:

  • relevant skills and experience (particularly with mediating or determining disputes, and more specifically disputes about monopoly infrastructure, such as that declared under Part 5 of the QCA Act or Part IIIA of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth))
  • relevant ADR accreditation
  • professional standing
  • expected independence
  • interest and availability.

Interested mediators and other dispute resolution professionals need to forward their curriculum vitae and a short paragraph (no more than half a page) addressing the above criteria.

About the HCCC
The Health Care Complaints Commission (HCCC) is an independent statutory body (set up under the Health Care Complaints Act 1993) that plays a central part in maintaining the integrity of the NSW health system, with the overarching consideration of protecting the health and safety of individuals and the community.

About the role
Resolution Officers play a vital role at the HCCC, working with health care providers and complainants across the state to resolve complaints and promote public health and safety. The position also provides outreach education services across the health sector and promotes strong partnerships with health providers and consumers around health care complaints.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Demonstrated ability to creatively apply a range of dispute resolution techniques including identifying issues and appropriate resolution strategies, maintaining impartiality in emotionally charged situations, managing expectations and negotiation
  • High level written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to maintain effective, focused relationships with clients from varied backgrounds and experiences
  • Ability to analyse complex information, and apply sound judgment and impartiality
  • Ability to balance priorities and manage a high-volume workload which has a high level of emotional content within legislated timeframes
  • Desirable: Experience in managing complex health care complaints and/or working with vulnerable communities and individuals

    2. Provide an example of a time when you have delivered a presentation or training to internal or external stakeholders in order to educate and provide them with information. What challenges or resistance did you experience and how did you deal with these?

The selection process will include a comparative assessment to assist in determining your suitability for the role. This will include a behavioural based interview and online testing.

A talent pool may be created from this recruitment action for ongoing and temporary roles of the same work classification that may become available for filling over the next 18 months.
