About Solution Focused Conflict Resolution and Mediation
Benjamin Franklin once said: “Every problem is an opportunity is disguise.” In the new and highly successful approach of solution focused (SF) conflict management the focus is on discovering these opportunities to find the ‘win-win’ scenario. The key lies in asking eliciting questions about goals, exceptions, and competencies and in motivating clients to change. Instead of focusing on the conflict and on their unwanted or even feared future, in Solution Focused conflict management the focus is on what clients want to have instead of the conflict and on their preferred future. Clients are considered to be co-experts in formulating their goal and devising solutions to make it happen.
The concept and methodology differs from traditional (problem-focused) types of mediation and can also be easily combined with them. Conversations become positive and shorter, ensuring that Solution Focused conflict management is cost-effective and there is less burnout amongst mediators.
The same model is applied in restorative justice, using the facilitator guidelines for restoration circles (Bannink & Walker, 2014).
About the Workshop
In this one-day workshop the four basic solution-focused questions and many practical tools are introduced which you can use as a mediator or conflict coach to resolve conflict and develop collaborative relationships.
After the workshop the attendants will be able to:
