5 Day Mediation Workshops

Our 5 day mediation workshop teaches mediation skills and is a good starting point for working towards FDR Provider accreditation for people who are not experienced mediators.

3 Day FDR Workshop

Our 3 Day FDR Workshop is designed for experienced mediators to cover the extra skills and knowledge required to be an FDR Provider.

The 3 day workshop covers:

  • An overview of mediation in the FDR context
  • Screening and Intake and domestic violence, including the provision of a screening tool, a template for intake and safety protocols and safety protocols
  • Child welfare, including background on child development and family systems theory
  • Use of the facilitative model to focus the parties on the needs of the children
  • Working effectively with high emotion
  • Cultural issues, diversity and inclusiveness, including background papers on mediating with Mäori and Pacific cultures
  • An overview of the Family Justice System and legal issues related to FDR

1 Day FDR Workshop

Our 1 Day FDR Workshop is designed for experienced family mediators to cover the new aspects of FDR in the new Family Justice System.

The 1 day workshop covers:

  • An overview of mediation in the FDR context
  • Screening and Intake and domestic violence, including using a screening tool, a template for assessment and safety protocols
  • Focusing parties on the needs of the children including techniques for incorporating the views of children
  • An overview of the Family Justice System and legal issues related to FDR

Professional development for FDR Providers

2017-18 Professional Development Programme

Resolution Institute, along with AMINZ and the New Zealand Law Society CLE, has secured funding from the Ministry of Justice to support the coming training events. The additional funding enables us to offer discounted rates and travel subsidies to providers wishing to participate.

FDR Update webinar

The training started with an FDR update delivered by webinar on 11 May. The session, with Rachael Dewar and Amy Oberkircher, covered the 12-hour model, making the most of separate meetings and agreements. For more information>>

Voice of the child and Inter-cultural issues seminars

Next international mediation expert David Hoffman will be in New Zealand for seminars in Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland. The events will consider the latest insights into the voice of the child in family mediation and inter-cultural issues. Both seminars will also include local input.

FDR Forums: Bringing it home
Half-day forums in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin will also look at the voice of the child and inter cultural issues in family mediation. These will be held in the week of 28 August.
