John Sharkey AM John Sharkey is an independent arbitrator and mediator both domestically and internationally. His primary practice is in the field of commercial disputes in the construction, engineering, energy and transport sectors and he has sat as an arbitrator and mediator within Australia and internationally on over 80 occasions. John Sharkey is co-author of “Commercial Arbitration” (Law Book Company 1986) and “Building and Construction Contracts” (2nd ed. Law Book Company 1990). He is a Professorial Fellow of the University of Melbourne and the state editor for Victoria and Tasmania of the journal Building and Construction Law. He is a former chair of the Law Council of Australia’s Construction Law Committee. John was made a member of the Order of Australia in 2006. In 2010 John was the inaugural winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award presented by Lawyers’ Weekly. In 2020, John was elected a fellow of the Australian Academy of Law. John is a panel arbitrator with ACICA, NZIAC, SIAC and Africa ADR. He is a Barrister & Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria and High Court of Australia, Supreme Courts of Tasmania and Western Australia, Member Law Council of Australia, Law Institute of Victoria, Society of Construction Law, International Academy of Construction Lawyers, Fellow of the Australian Academy of Law. |

This webinar will be moderated by Ian McMaster Ian is both tertiary and trade qualified and has worked primarily in the building and construction Industry, both in Australia and overseas. As such, he brings to dispute resolution his legal knowledge as well as a full understanding of the practical aspects of an often adversarial industry. While his experience in litigation, arbitration and mediation goes back many years mainly as an advocate, he has also mediated commercial and family estate dissolution matters. Ian has recently begun practicing as an expert determiner in construction disputes.. His pragmatic approach to dispute resolution has proved to be helpful to parties and clients alike. |
