About the presenter

The Honourable Peter Vickery QC

After a long and highly distinguished career as Senior Counsel in commercial and construction and engineering litigation and arbitration across Australia, Peter Vickery QC was appointed a Supreme Court Judge where he established and managed the TEC List in the Commercial Division of the Court. Major TEC cases he conducted as Senior Counsel included: acting for the Commonwealth of Australia (ASC) in an arbitration against the Swedish designer and part constructor of the Collins submarine (Kockums AB of Malmö, Sweden owned by Saab Defence Group); acting for the State of Tasmania in the Supreme Court of Tasmania against the Designer and Constructor of the Bass Highway in northern Tasmania (Leighton Contractors P/L); and acting for QANTAS in the Federal Court against a contractor Baulderstone defending a large delay and disruption claim arising from construction of Domestic Terminal at Melbourne Airport. As a Judge of the Court, His Honour managed and heard many significant commercial and TEC Cases, including cases arising from interstate projects, and has been responsible for the introduction of new technologies to the Court. He is now in practice based in Sydney and Melbourne as an arbitrator, referee, DRB panellist and mediator and lectures at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). His focus in conducting litigation and arbitration has been on flexibility, efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
