How do you mediate with someone who is speaking a different language, figuratively? Join us to analyse and with the help of experienced speaker, learn tips and strategies to overcoming language barriers in mediations.

This interactive session will canvass:

  • Nature of language
  • Dilemmas of misunderstanding
  • How to work with Interpreters effectively
  • Strategies for facilitating a multi-lingual mediation session

This forum will be of interest to lawyers and dispute resolution practitioners who deal with cultural and language barriers and comprehension/interpretation/understanding within mediation and dispute resolution.


About the presenters

Ippei Okazaki GDLP PRI

Is a trauma Informed facilitator and has worked as a community mediator since 2007 assisting some of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged people across regional and remote Australia. His multi-award winning projects include healing communities recovering from the 2019-20 black summer bushfires to healing whole communities following major family feuds and creating peacemaking resources in Warlpiri and Tiwi Languages in the NT.
