Complete the online role play assessment to apply for Resolution Institute Mediation Accreditation.

At present accreditation assessments will be conducted online.

How is the assessment conducted?

The assessment will be conducted online using Zoom. The date and time for the assessment will be confirmed after you have registered.

Technology required: Zoom application, PC/laptop/tablet/smartphone, Internet connection, sound/speakers or a headset and an in-built microphone.

The steps to completing the online assessment are:

  1. Questionnaire: When we have received your assessment registration we will send out a questionnaire to complete along with supporting materials to read, digest and use to complete the questionnaire along with your own experience. We will provide you with a date to return this questionnaire by prior to your role play date.
  2. Pre-assessment meeting with assessor: A half hour meeting to meet your assessor and chat over the assessment process and any questions you have.
  3. Pre-assessment meeting with Resolution Institute Host: This will be done over the zoom platform where the Resolution Host will take you through the technical processes for the assessment.
  4. Role play: During the role play you will play the role of a mediator and volunteers play the role of the two parties in the simulated dispute. The mediation session must be 1.5-2 hours long and a Resolution Institute assessor will be present. You will be sent out the common facts for your role play in the week prior to your assessment.
  5. Self-assessment: After your role-play, you must respond to the questions in the self-assessment form, reflecting on what you think you did well and what you could have done better. We will send you the self-assessment form with your preparation materials.

Our Resolution Institute assessor will consider your questionnaire, role play and your self-assessment to determine whether you have 'demonstrated competency’ or have ‘not yet demonstrated competency’. Depending on assessor availability, we will then email you the results within 4 - 6 weeks.


Prerequisites

You need to have either:

  • Completed the Resolution Institute 5 day mediation workshop; or

  • Applied to Resolution Institute to have their training recognised as having met the requirements of the approval standards of NMAS in Australia or RI Mediation Accreditation scheme in NZ.

Our panel of assessors are independent of the training team and have significant experience as mediators.


Your next steps

If you are assessed as demonstrating competency, Resolution Institute will then grant you Resolution Institute Mediation Accreditation. In order to hold this accreditation you are also required to hold Professional Membership with Resolution Institute. Once you have been accredited Resolution Institute will communicate with you to upgrade your membership to Professional.


Frequently asked questions

  • When is a good time to sit the assessment?

    Every candidate is different and can choose when they wish to sit the assessment. Many candidates find it helpful to sit their assessment between 6 weeks to 3 months after their training is completed, as it gives them the opportunity to:

    • arrange practice sessions with other graduates of their mediation training course or with other colleagues. We can supply practice role plays to use for this purpose.
    • gain experience of the assessment process by role playing for other candidates.
    • reflect on their training and put the approach and skills they have learnt into practice in work and home settings.
    • review their training materials thoroughly.
  • What happens if I am unable to attend the session?

    We understand that life can be complex. If you are unable to attend your assessment, please contact Resolution Institute on 04 470 0110 as soon as possible, as we will be coordinating role players and an assessor for your session.   • Who will assess whether I am competent?

    Our panel of assessors are independent of the training team and have significant experience as mediators.

  • What happens if I fail my assessment?

    You will be eligible to undertake a subsequent assessments at a reduced fee of NZ$480.

Accessing the online accreditation assessment

Online accreditation assessments are run using Zoom as our online platform.

  • How do I access the online accreditation assessment?

    You will receive the Zoom link by email prior to your assessment.

  • What do I need on my computer or device to access the online accreditation assessment?

    You will ideally need a computer or device with a camera and microphone and good Internet coverage. You will need to make sure that you can access ‘Zoom’ in your browser. You can download and install Zoom prior or as part of the process when you first click the Zoom link.

    You may access the online accreditation assessment from your PC, Mac, Linux or mobile devices (IOS or Android). Click here to learn about:

    Internet connectivity

    • Join a Zoom test meeting to test your Internet connectivity.
    • Check here for recommended Internet bandwidth.

    Sound

    • You will need speakers or headphones to listen to the speaker. Check that your headphones or speakers are connected and the volume is turned on (where applicable).
    • You may also need to check the Audio Settings on Zoom once you have logged in.
