Resolution Institute conference

Spotlight on practice

16–17 October 2019, Wellington NZ

Multi-party mediation tools

with Hayden Wilson

This workshop will provide mediators with the tools and techniques needed to mediate multi party mediations with ease. Participants will come away from the workshop better able to manage different personalities and shifting power dynamics, and will have a better understanding of ethical considerations and maintaining confidentiality in these situations.

We will also focus on how to avoid becoming stuck on a particular issue by building consensus, establishing ground rules and defining the roles of the participants.

This will be an interactive workshop, where people will share ideas and have a guided discussion on tips and strategies for mediation.

Hayden Wilson is a partner at Kensington Swan and leads their Government and Regulatory team. Hayden specialises in helping government agencies and private sector organisations working closely with government to resolve complex disputes and navigate through the often complex process of working with the public sector. Hayden and his team also provide crisis management support and advice in relation to government or regulatory investigations, inquiries or prosecutions.

As well as litigation, Hayden practices as a mediator with specialisation in commercial and public law disputes. Hayden initially trained with LEADR (as Resolution Institute then was) and completed further training with Pepperdine University in California, and most recently completed the Advanced Mediation - Mediating Complex Dispute programme at Harvard University.
