FDR Training | Wellington | 7-9 May 2024

FDR training for new and aspiring family dispute resolution professionals.  This course has been reinvigorated as a result of feedback from Fairway, Family Works and the FDR Centre. A prerequisite of the course is that you have undertaken mediation training.

What will the course cover?

  • Framework of the FDR package available in Aotearoa NZ
  • The role of the FDR mediator
  • Child inclusive practices and voice of the child, to be provided by a specialist practitioner
  • Up-to-date child inclusive practice
  • Getting the most out of intake and preliminary meetings
  • Parenting plans, agreements, what resolution can look like
  • Common and ethical issues raised and how to handle them
  • Boundaries of the role and legal requirements
  • Working effectively with lawyers and support people
  • A tikanga Maori lens on family mediation, to be provided by a Maori FDR Practitioner

The training includes presentations from Fairway, Family Works and the FDR Centre.

Who is the course for?

  • All those who have undertaken mediation training. This is a prerequisite.
  • Mediators considering moving into FDR.
  • Thise who would like to learn from those already working in FDR.

Who is our trainer?

Lesley Ashworth

Lesley is an experienced FDR practitioner with a background in family law. She has conducted many FDR mediations since the scheme was introduced. She works as a self-employed mediator, facilitator and coach, primarily in FDR and workplace matters, Her background in restorative justice has influenced her approach to much of her work. This has proved particularly helpful when supporting parents with the co-parenting relationship in mediation. Lesley also worked as a mediator for the Human Rights Commission for a number of years. She provides professional supervision to FDR mediators and lawyers.
